Ingredients
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
Colored sugar or sprinkles (optional for decorating)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using), and mix well.
5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions, roll into balls, and flatten slightly on the baking sheet.
7. Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles if desired.
8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are just golden.
9. Cool on a wire rack before decorating or serving.
Notes
For crisp cookies, bake an extra 1–2 minutes.
Chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking for cleaner edges.
