Description

A delightful Southern dessert made with ripe bananas and a fluffy cake-like topping that warms the heart.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • Whipped cream or ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the sliced bananas, brown sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Mix gently and spread the mixture in a greased baking dish.
  3. Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in another bowl. Stir in the milk and melted butter until just mixed.
  4. Pour the batter over the banana mixture in the baking dish without stirring.
  5. Bake for about 40-45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool slightly before serving warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

For best results, use overripe bananas, and feel free to experiment with additional spices or nuts.
