Description

These visually stunning waffles combine the flavors of red velvet cake with a crispy texture, perfect for special occasions and delightful brunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir in the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
  5. Divide the batter into two equal parts, coloring one half with red food coloring.
  6. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  7. Pour a scoop of classic batter onto one half of the waffle iron and a scoop of red batter onto the other half, gently swirling together.
  8. Cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions until golden brown, about 4-6 minutes.
  9. Remove the waffles from the waffle iron and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days in the fridge, or freeze for about a month.
