Description

A delightful dessert cake combining rich flavors of vanilla and chocolate with a beautiful marbled effect.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs to the butter-sugar mixture one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the cocoa powder with hot water to form a paste.
  8. Divide the prepared batter in half; mix one half with the chocolate paste.
  9. Pour spoonfuls of the vanilla batter into the prepared loaf pan, then layer with spoonfuls of the chocolate batter.
  10. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters together for a marbled effect.
  11. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
