Description
A delicious twist on classic sloppy joes, featuring the rich flavors of French onion soup with caramelized onions, ground beef, and melty Swiss cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes until golden and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until fully browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- If there’s excess fat, drain it off from the pan.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and seasoning, and let it simmer on low heat for 5 minutes.
- Toast the hamburger buns lightly in another pan or toaster until golden brown.
- Scoop the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun, top with Swiss cheese, and cover with the top half of the bun.
- Garnish with chopped parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
For added spice, consider adding hot sauce or crushed red pepper flakes. You can substitute Swiss cheese with provolone or mozzarella for different flavors.
