Description
A delicious twist on the classic cheesesteak sandwich using ground beef for a budget-friendly and flavorful dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 0.5 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 6–8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie or sub rolls
- 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil if needed, then sauté the diced onion and green bell pepper until soft and caramelized, around 5 minutes.
- Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add Garlic and Seasoning: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute. Whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch in a small bowl, pour it into the skillet with Worcestershire sauce, and simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened. Season to taste.
- Melt the Cheese: Reduce heat to low, lay the provolone cheese over the beef mixture, cover, and cook for about 1 minute until the cheese melts.
- Toast the Rolls: Split hoagie rolls, butter each side, and toast them until golden and crispy.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
Serve hot with sides like crispy fries or a salad. For added flavor, consider toppings like pickles or jalapeños.
