Description

A delicious twist on the classic cheesesteak sandwich using ground beef for a budget-friendly and flavorful dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 68 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie or sub rolls
  • 2 tbsp butter, for toasting
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil if needed, then sauté the diced onion and green bell pepper until soft and caramelized, around 5 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Add Garlic and Seasoning: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute. Whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch in a small bowl, pour it into the skillet with Worcestershire sauce, and simmer for 2–3 minutes until thickened. Season to taste.
  4. Melt the Cheese: Reduce heat to low, lay the provolone cheese over the beef mixture, cover, and cook for about 1 minute until the cheese melts.
  5. Toast the Rolls: Split hoagie rolls, butter each side, and toast them until golden and crispy.
  6. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into the toasted rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve hot with sides like crispy fries or a salad. For added flavor, consider toppings like pickles or jalapeños.
