Description

A classic comfort food that combines juicy beef, melted cheese, and sweet caramelized onions, all sandwiched between perfectly toasted bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 slices of bread (rye or sourdough)
  • 1 beef patty
  • 2 slices of cheese (Swiss or American)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • Butter (for grilling)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions: In a skillet, melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until golden brown (10-15 minutes). Set aside.
  2. Prepare the beef patty: Season the beef patty with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-fry until desired doneness.
  3. Assemble the sandwich: Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side of one slice, layer the beef patty, caramelized onions, and cheese.
  4. Top with the second slice: Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing up.
  5. Grill the sandwich: Cook in the skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve the Patty Melt: Remove from skillet, let cool for a minute, then slice in half and serve hot.

Notes

Serve with crispy fries, onion rings, or a side salad. Customize with pickles or coleslaw for extra crunch.
