- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box.
- Prepare your cake pan by greasing it; a 9×13 inch pan is recommended.
- Mix together the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until smooth.
- Bake the cake as directed on the box, usually for about 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Poke holes using the handle of a wooden spoon while the cake is still warm.
- Make the topping by combining evaporated milk, sugar, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans, cooking until thickened.
- Add the coconut-pecan topping over the warm cake to allow it to seep in.
- Cool the cake completely before spreading chocolate frosting on top.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.
