Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning mix
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice off the tops and bottoms of each mini onion and gently peel away the outer skin.
  2. Cut each onion into 12 to 16 segments, keeping the base intact to maintain the blooming effect.
  3. In a large bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until even.
  4. Pour buttermilk into a separate bowl and coat each onion in it.
  5. Roll the onions in the flour mixture to ensure they are well-coated.
  6. Heat oil in a pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C) with enough depth for frying.
  7. Fry the onions in batches until golden brown (about 3 to 5 minutes).
  8. Remove fried onions and drain on paper towels.
  9. In a small bowl, mix buttermilk and ranch seasoning until smooth for the dip.
  10. Serve the hot crispy mini blooming onions with ranch dip.
