Description

A warm, comforting dessert made with ripe bananas and stale bread, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an after-dinner treat.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 ripe bananas
  • 4 cups of bread cubes (preferably stale or day-old)
  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mash the bananas in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Add the bread cubes to the mashed bananas and stir to coat.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread and bananas, then stir gently.
  6. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes.
  7. Grease a baking dish and transfer the mixture into it.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
