Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease an 8-inch square baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
- Combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp of baking soda, and 1/2 tsp of salt in a medium bowl.
- Melt 1/2 cup of butter in a large saucepan over low heat and stir in 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, 1/4 cup of water, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
- Add 2 large eggs and whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Fold in 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and, if using, 1/2 cup of chopped nuts.
- Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for about 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares.
