- 1 large loaf of Italian or French bread
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef (like ribeye or sirloin)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 cups provolone or mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: hot sauce for serving
- Optional: freshly chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and sauté sliced onions and green bell peppers until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add the beef to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, about 4 to 6 minutes.
- Remove from heat, stir in 1.5 cups of shredded cheese until melted and combine with vegetables.
- Slice the bread in half lengthwise to create a pocket.
- Spread garlic butter on both halves of the bread.
- Place the cheesesteak mixture on one half, sprinkle with remaining cheese, and close with the other half.
- Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil and bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Unwrap and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp the bread.
- Let cool before slicing and serve warm with parsley and hot sauce if desired.
