Description

A classic comfort food featuring hearty beef patties smothered in rich gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Instructions

  1. Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Use your hands or a fork to mix everything well. Once mixed, shape the mixture into patties, pressing them down slightly to ensure they cook evenly.
  2. Brown the patties: Place a skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the patties in the skillet. Cook them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned nicely. Once done, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
  3. Cook the mushrooms: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Sauté the mushrooms for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they have softened and started to release their moisture.
  4. Prepare the gravy: Once the mushrooms are cooked, sprinkle the flour over them. Stir the flour for about a minute to combine, then gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Keep stirring until the mixture is smooth and starts to thicken.
  5. Return the patties: Carefully place the browned patties back into the skillet, making sure to coat each one in the gravy. Cover the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, allowing the beef to absorb the flavors of the gravy.
  6. Serve: Your Salisbury Steak with Gravy is now ready to serve! Pair it with creamy mashed potatoes or rice, and drizzle any extra gravy over the patties for a delicious finish.

Notes

Serve warm with sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, or a fresh salad. Garnish with chopped parsley for freshness.
