Description
Classic soft sugar cookies that hold their shape beautifully and deliver buttery sweetness in every bite — perfect for rolling, cutting, decorating, and turning any holiday baking session into a festive tradition.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a dough forms.
5. Divide dough in half, wrap, and chill for 30–60 minutes.
6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
7. Roll dough out on a floured surface and cut into desired shapes.
8. Place cookies on baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are set.
9. Cool completely before decorating with icing or sprinkles.
Notes
Chilling the dough prevents spreading and keeps cookie shapes sharp.
Do not overbake — cookies should stay pale for a soft texture.
Decorate with royal icing or buttercream for festive flair.
